Kingston 1GB HyperX PC2-8500 DDR2 Memory Kit Pictorial Review

Preliminary Opinions

Like all other Kingston HyperX products, Kingston 1GB HyperX PC2-8500 DDR2 Memory Kit is designed specifically to fulfill the insatiable demand of hardcore gamers. They want nothing but the fastest memory and these modules do just that.

At 1066 MHz DDR, the Kingston HyperX PC2-8500 DDR2 series offers the highest memory clock speed at latencies of 5-5-5-15 with a rated command rate of 1T. Of course, to reach that clock speed, Kingston recommends an I/O voltage of 2.2V.

At the standard 1.8V I/O voltage, Kingston rates these modules at 800 MHz DDR. If your motherboard cannot support the I/O voltage of 2.2V, then you may have to run at this speed.

It's also good to note that Kingston is backing up these memory modules with a lifetime warranty. No matter how overclocked or overvolted the memory chips in these memory modules are, you can be assured of a replacement from Kingston should anything untoward happen to the modules. It is certainly great news for PC enthusiasts who love pushing their PC to the limits.

Although this memory kit allows you to run with a very high memory clock speed, it might be a good idea to consider the 2GB kit instead. Games like F.E.A.R. and memory-intensive applications like Photoshop require a lot of memory, and 2GB will certainly improve their performance.

This memory kit is certainly worth checking out if you are looking for really high-speed memory to play with. With a lifetime warranty to back it up, you will have ample opportunity to tweak and polish this diamond until it shines!
