USB 3.0 Enclosure

The 240 GB HyperX Savage SSD upgrade kit comes with a USB 3.0 enclosure, for the hard disk drive you are migrating from. It is a simple plastic enclosure, but one with an aluminium top plate which gives it a classy look. On one end is the USB 3.0 port with an activity LED next to it. On the other end is the switch which locks or unlocks the case cover.

If you are wondering where is the USB 3.0 cable for this enclosure, it's actually hidden inside the enclosure itself. It fits any 2.5" hard disk drive of up to 9.5 mm in height. Here, we used the HyperX Savage SSD itself as an example.

Bracket & Spacer

For those who intend to install this SSD in a desktop, HyperX includes a 3.5" bracket with two sets of screws - one to attach the SSD to the bracket, and one to attach the entire assembly into the 3.5" drive bay.

The HyperX Savage SSD also comes with a spacer, which is a 7 mm to 9.5 mm adaptor. It's used to provide structural support to the SSD (which is just 7 mm thick) when installed in a notebook drive bay designed for 9.5 mm drives. It comes with double-sided tape on both ends to attach itself to the drive.

Although flash memory is, for practical intents and purposes, shock- and vibration-proof, installing the HyperX Savage SSD in a 9.5 mm bay without this spacer will leave it "hanging", supported only by its SATA connector. If enough shock or vibration is applied to the drive, the connector may be damaged, rendering the drive inoperable.

Other Accessories & Documents

The 240 GB HyperX Savage SSD comes with a multi-bit screwdriver that looks like a pen. It has a magnetic slot at the business end, with an end cap that opens to allow you to store the small bits inside. It comes with two sets of screws for use with the 3.5" bracket above.

Other than the perfunctory Getting Started guide, and HyperX sticker, the HyperX Savage SSD also comes with a licence key for a copy of the Acronis True Image HD software.
