How Well Did We Do?
After loads of tests, we finally pegged the maximum stable clock speeds of our GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB at 804 MHz core and 1080 MHz RAM. This means we managed to overclock the GPU by 154 MHz (23.7%). For those who are interested, overclocking the core to 804 MHz also overclocked the shader processors to 2010 MHz. We only managed to overclock the memory bus by 108 MHz (11.1%). Not a great overclock, but it was much higher than what we managed to accomplish with the GeForce 8800 GT.
Now, let's take a look at how the overclocked GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB compares to the stock GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB and a selection of other cards.

Even with the higher memory speed, the overclocked GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB still cannot match the memory bandwidth of the GeForce 8800 GTX. From specifications alone, the GeForce 8800 GTX has a 24.9% advantage in memory bandwidth. On the other hand, overclocking the GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB allowed it to increase its fillrate advantage over the GeForce 8800 GTX from 13% to 39.8%! So, is fillrate more important than memory bandwidth? Let's find out...
