The 1.5 TB FreeAgent GoFlex

The Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1.5 TB portable hard disk drive is only available in black with a glossy finish on the top and sides, and a matte finish on the underside.

The drive itself is somewhat larger, thicker and heavier than the usual 2.5" external hard disk drive. Here's quick comparison of its size and weight versus those of other 2.5" external drives :

2.5" External Hard Disk Drives

Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex (1.5 TB)

22 mm (0.87")

Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex (1 TB)

Western Digital My Passport Studio (640 GB)

18.5 mm (0.73")

83 mm (3.27")

124 mm (4.88")

180 g (0.40 lbs)

Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex (500 GB)

14 mm (0.57")

83 mm (3.27")

111 mm (4.39")

150 g (0.33 lbs)

Western Digital My Passport Essential (500 GB)

15 mm (0.60")

83 mm (3.27")

110 mm (4.30")

140 g (0.31 lbs)

In the pictures below, we compared the 1.5 TB FreeAgent GoFlex to the 500 GB FreeAgent GoFlex and the 500 GB WD My Passport Essential. From left to right (first picture) and from top to bottom (second picture) are the 500 GB My Passport Essential, the 500 GB FreeAgent GoFlex and the 1 TB FreeAgent GoFlex.

The greater size and weight of this FreeAgent GoFlex model suggests that Seagate is pairing two 750 GB hard disk drives internally to deliver the 1.5 TB storage capacity. The SATA-to-USB adaptor itself is not part of the drive. We will delve into that later.
