Our First Look At The HTC One Max

The HTC One Max looks exactly like a larger version of the HTC One, right down to the dual speakers - above and under the large display.

The HTC One Max is physically larger (in all 3 dimensions) than the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, but it still fitted surprisingly well in my hand.

This demo shows how the fingerprint sensor worked. HTC took a different path from Apple with the fingerprint sensor, placing it at the back of the HTC One Max. It not only unlocks the smartphone, it can also be configured to launch an app of your choice depending on which finger you swipe.

HTC claims this is a more natural place for the fingerprint sensor. It is, but the need to swipe it vertically means it won't work as well as they intended it to because when you hold the HTC One Max, your fingers would be naturally slanted at an angle, with respect to the fingerprint sensor.

The HTC One Max looks okay in your hands, but like all phablets, it looks ridiculously large when you hold it up to your ear.

Pro tip : Use a Bluetooth headset or the speakers for your calls. ;)

The HTC Power Flip Case

In this video, Wayne Tang, Product Marketing Manager of HTC South Asia, explains why the new HTC One Max's Power Flip Case is so cool!

It not only extends the HTC One Max's already excellent battery life with 1,200 mAh of additional battery capacity. Yet, it maintains the shape of the HTC One Max's curved back.

The HTC Power Flip Case for the HTC One Max will be made available at the end of November 2013 with a suggested retail price of US$ 99-109 (RM 309-339).

Price & Availability

The HTC One Max will be available in two colours - Glacial Silver and Stealth Black, and with either 16 GB or 32 GB of built-in flash storage. However, HTC Malaysia will only bring in the 16 GB model with a recommended retail price of RM 2,499 (US$ 799).

As mention before, this is because the HTC One Max comes with a microSD card slot hidden under the removable back panel. With the option to upgrade, HTC Malaysia believes that most Malaysians will prefer to buy the HTC One Max 16 GB and upgrade its flash storage using microSD cards.
