How Much Faster Is It?
NVIDIA benchmarked the new GeForce GTX 770 running at an ultra-high resolution of 2560x1600 against the AMD Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition and the GeForce GTX 780. On average, the GeForce GTX 770 was about 8% faster than the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition and 10% slower than the GeForce GTX 780.
As always, NVIDIA attempts to pitch the value of their SLI solution, and their continuous attempts to make it ever more efficient. Here, they demonstrated that two GeForce GTX 770 graphics cards in SLI mode is able to deliver an average of 80% better performance than a single GeForce GTX 770.
GPU Boost 2.0
Like the recently launched NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780, the new GeForce GTX 770 will also feature an improved version of GPU Boost. As you all know, GPU Boost automatically overclocks the GPU by a predetermined amount if the graphics card is still operating within a defined power target - 170 W in the GeForce GTX 680 for example.
GPU Boost 2.0 changes the trigger from the power target to an 80 °C temperature target. What this means is the GeForce GTX 770 is likely to stay "boosted" all of the time, as long as the GPU's temperature remains below the 80 °C. So third-party manufacturers using a more powerful fan, or users ramping up the fans manually, can help increase the amount of overclocking GPU Boost 2.0 delivers.
Whisper Quiet Cooler
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 reference board design will incorporate the same vapor chamber cooler that was first introduced on the GeForce GTX TITAN earlier this year. This cooler runs quieter than the coolers used in older GeForce graphics cards, even when the card is at full load. NVIDIA claims that the GeForce GTX 770 generates about 4 dBA less noise, compared to the GeForce GTX 670 and GeForce GTX 570.
Curiously, NVIDIA made no mention of the new Adaptive Temperature Controller that is a feature of the GeForce GTX 780 and the GeForce TITAN.
Price And Availability
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 will have an official launch price of USD 399, and is immediately available from NVIDIA's partners in both the reference design as well as their own custom designs.
