Removing The Top Cover
14. The motherboard is covered by a plate steel shield which is secured in a number of areas by black screws (circled in red in the picture below). Acer conveniently marked them with arrows etched into the shield. In our model, there were six screws. Unscrew them all and keep the screws in your container.
15. The shield is attached to the top plastic cover, which is secured to the bottom half by locking tabs along the edges. You have to use your fingers and the flat head screwdriver to pry the top plastic cover off. It's best to start from the touchpad and work your way backwards. Once you have unlocked a few tabs, gently pull the top cover off until the entire piece comes off.
