NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX Graphics Card

The new NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX is simply astounding! It's really fast, no matter what you put it through. Even at 1280x1024, you can already benefit from its performance. It works best at higher resolutions like 1600x1200 though.

It also works really well with the new 8xAA anti-aliasing mode which hardly saps its performance, albeit at our test resolution of 1600x1200. Still, that's really good performance considering the fact that even the dual GPU GeForce 7950 GX2 chokes on 8xAA.

We can safely say that armed with the GeForce 8800 GTX, you can play any game at 16xAF and 8xAA without worrying about frame rates. Just load up your game and let 'er rip!

Although NVIDIA's announcement of Quantum Effects will arouse interest in Physics Effects, there's really no need to worry about that just yet. But it's good to know that when games do support NVIDIA's Quantum Effects, your GeForce 8800 GTX will be ready to take over physics calculations thanks to its unified architecture.

We have not been able to test the GeForce 8800 GTX in SLI mode, but frankly, this card is so fast, we wonder if there's a real need for two of these beasts in a single system... But we expect developers to make use of the GeForce 8800 GTX's unified architecture to develop more realistic games as well as other non-graphics applications to run on the GPU.

You have to be insane not to love this card, but you have to be insane to get this card as well! The price tag is as mind-blowing as its predecessor. This time though, the chip is understandably expensive to make. After all, there are 681 million transistors in this baby. We sure love the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX, but its price tag is way beyond our means...

Because of its revolutionary architecture and incredible performance, we are proud to award it our Editor's Choice Award! If only the price was lower... But still, congratulations, NVIDIA!

Our Review System

Tech ARP is committed to developing new ways to improve your experience with us. As part of our continuous efforts to improve the value of our reviews to you, we are implementing a multi-tier review system.

This review system is designed to allow you to quickly receive information on the latest hardware or software. This new system also allows you to quickly get the gist of the review without reading through it. This can be very useful, especially in situations where you need to make a quick purchase decision.

In this new system, we start with a Product Overview whenever a company sends us a press release about their latest product. We shift through extraneous PR-talk to create a straightforward summary of the product's features as well as specifications. This allows you to quickly find out all the pertinent details about the product, without reading through official press releases.

When we receive the product for review, we will quickly take photos of it and create a Pictorial Review. The purpose of a pictorial review is to allow you, the reader, to quickly examine the product visually. It may help you make better purchase decisions, especially if you cannot wait for the full review.

After thorough testing, we will post a Comprehensive Review of the product. This adds on to the pictorial review with comprehensive test results and our final conclusion on the product.

But no matter whether you are reading a Pictorial Review or a Comprehensive Review, you can always read the summary of the review as well as examine the product's specifications right on the first page. In all our new reviews, we will maintain the first page as a Product Overview page. If the product is listed in PriceGrabber, you can also check out the lowest price online.

We hope this new review system will make your experience a lot more enjoyable and informative!
