ED#202 : The Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition Experience
On the morning of the 10th of July, 2015, Samsung Malaysia invited us to an exclusive media workshop for some hands-on time with the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition For S6. It was held at a specially-adapted container room situated right outside the Pavilion KL entrance.

Inside the room were four stations, each with a Samsung Gear VR for us to try out. There was also a Samsung Gear VR specialist at each station to explain the key features of the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition For S6, as well as teach us how to use it. This video shows one of the Samsung Gear VR specialists explaining how to use the Gear VR in less than 90 seconds :
That's the theory part, of course, but it actually took us only a few minutes of practice with the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition for S6 to start shooting at aliens in Mortal Blitz. It's really that easy!

After this exclusive media workshop, these Gear VR sets will be made available to the public to try out at the following places from 12 pm to 9 pm :
- the Main Entrance of Pavilion - from the 10th to the 12th of July, 2015
- the Blue Zone of Sunway Pyramid - on the 25th and the 26th of July, 2015
It was a truly immersive experience that cannot be adequately described in pictures or words. We highly recommend that you give the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition at try at the venues above!

Smaller Version Of The Original Gear VR
The Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition For S6 is a newer and 15% smaller version of the original Samsung Gear VR which uses the Galaxy Note 4. It only supports the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge smartphones and drops the volume key, but everything else remains the same. It uses the same Oculus Rift head-tracking module with a trackpad on the side, an accelerometer, a gyrometer and a proximity sensor.

The Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition For S6 has a replaceable face foam, two 54~70mm fixed lenses with a 96° field of view and a microUSB connection for your Samsung Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 edge. Because they have a higher pixel density, compared to the Galaxy Note 4, they should deliver a higher resolution image to the user.

The Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition For S6 has a small touchpad on the right side with a Back / Home button above it. It lacks the Volume key in the original Gear VR. The controls are very intuitive but requires you to tap the touchpad quite often. If you're left-handed, you better learn to use your right hand because you can't switch the touchpad to the left side. There's nothing on the left side except for the Gear VR and Oculus logos.
