This is the most important test for those who intend to use the Backup Plus as a portable boot drive. In this small random access test, the 1 TB Backup Plus did poorly compared to the flash-based Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 G2 and OCZ Enyo drives. That said, it was still the fastest HDD-based portable drive in this comparison, and by a significant amount too.

When it came to large 512 KB random accesses, the 1 TB Seagate Backup Plus drive was the second-fastest HDD-based portable drive, incoming in right behind the 2 TB Western Digital My Passport. Although it was as fast as the Western Digital drive in reads, it was slightly slower in writes.
