A New And Simpler Mod!
The folks over at www.hardwarelab.ru have come up with a new and simpler way to mod your Radeon into a FireGL card - using their FreeFireGL driver!
This driver is actually a pre-patched driver. This saves you the hassle of manually patching the driver using RivaTuner. All you need to do now is just need to install the FreeFireGL driver over the Catalyst driver. Many thanks to Ambassador Kosh for telling me about this driver!
Before I describe the FreeFireGL driver installation procedure step-by-step, let us have a look at mods supported by the FreeFireGL driver.
- RADEON 9600 to FireGL T2
- RADEON 9500 to FireGL X1
- RADEON 9500 (256-bit) to FireGL X2
- RADEON 9700 to FireGL X1
- RADEON 9700 to FireGL X2
- RADEON 9500PRO/9700 to FireGL X1
- RADEON 9500(4-pipe) to FireGL Z1
- RADEON 9800 Series to FireGL X2
- RADEON 9800SE to FireGL 'Z2' (4-pipe)
I only tested my card - converting the Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB into the FireGL X2. The mod was a complete success. However, I have no idea whether this driver works as well on the other cards in the list above. Some users have reported stability issues or outright failure with the FreeFireGL driver.
Okay, let's see how the installation procedure goes.
