Some Simple Tips
#1 - Keep Your Lens Clean
If you use your phone a great deal everyday, it will get dirty very easily. Keeping the phone in your pocket, in a case or in a bag won’t help much either. Unless your camera phone has a built-in cover like the Sony Ericsson K800i or Nokia N95, be prepared to clean your lens regularly if you want to get nice shots with it.
#2 - The Rule Of Thirds
When composing photographs, always try to apply the rule that most photographers swear by - The Rule of Thirds. This rule states that if you want a good photograph, visually divide the viewfinder into thirds and frame your subject so that he/she/it lies within one of the two lines. This is a really simple rule to use and once you start using it, it will come naturally to you.
#3 - Get Up Close
Good efforts will often be recognized in the photographs you take. If a photographer is willing to go all the way and get a good shot, the photograph will definitely show it. For example, if you go up, close and personal while taking a photo of a person, the resulting photo will be much nicer than a simple one taken far away.
The fact that most camera phones lack optical zoom means that you will have to work hard since you really don’t have the convenience of zoom lenses that digital cameras have. Even camera phones that support optical zoom don’t work well as images become noisier or darker when optical zoom is used, Also, never use digital zoom as it is nothing more than zooming into the picture on your PC.
#4 - Take More Photos
I’m sure we’ve all heard it over and over again, but really… practice makes perfect!
Since your camera is already in your phone, use it to the max. Get a large memory card that can store a lot of photos. When you take more photos, you actually minimize the chances of not getting a good shot.
Take as many photos of a scene as you can, so that even if most of them are bad, at least one or two will be good. This is particularly important when you take moving subjects, like your children. Taking as many shots as you can will ensure you capture that incredible smile or action that would otherwise be lost forever.
A significant advantage that camera phones have over most standalone digital cameras is that the battery can be charged through the device itself and you don’t need to remove the battery to charge. As long as you conveniently keep your phone charged every day, you can take at least 50-100 shots a day.
Due to the less complex nature of the camera modules in mobile phones, they are far less likely to break down compared to standalone digital cameras. Even more reason for you to take more photos!
