ABIT NF7 Series VDD Mod Guide

Introduction

Unsatisfied with the limited FSB (Front Side Bus) speed of your ABIT NF7-series motherboard that limiting your system's performance? Or do you need a higher FSB speed to overclock your multiplier-locked Athlon XP processor? If your answer is yes, then this guide was written expressly for you!

Although the ABIT NF7-series motherboards are very good motherboards, they are not particularly overclockable. The NF7-series motherboards are usually limited to a maximum FSB speed of 220MHz to 225MHz. This limits the overclockability of the FSB as well as the processor (for the multiplier-locked processors).

To correct this deficiency, we can boost the chipset's voltage. This can already be done via the BIOS. However, the limited increase in voltage allowed by the BIOS translates into minimal improvements in overclockability.

To further boost the chipset's overclockability, we can try the Vdd mod. This allows us to achieve higher FSB speeds in the ABIT NF7-series motherboards. This method has been used extensively by many overclockers. But we will cover this method in great detail so that you too can learn how to do it!

What Is This Vdd Mod?

For those of you who have no idea what Vdd is, Vdd refers to the chipset voltage.

The idea of this mod is to "trick" the voltage controller into increasing the voltage supplied to the chipset. It allows you to boost the chipset's voltage beyond what is available in the BIOS.

The main purpose of performing this hardware mod is to give the chipset a good voltage boost so it can be overclocked further. Without this mod, you will be limited to a maximum chipset voltage of only 1.7V.
