PWRON After PWR-Fail

Common Options : On, Off

Quick Review

This BIOS feature allows you to set the PC to automatically start itself up after a power failure.

When set to On, the PC will automatically start up when power is restored.

When set to Off, the PC will remain powered off even when power is restored.

If you are running a server, you should turn on this BIOS feature. This allows your server to automatically get online after a power cut. You should also set this on for any PC that you need to remote connect to. Otherwise, those PCs will remain powered off and inaccessible.

In addition, you should set the PC/server to hibernate before the UPS (or notebook) battery runs out. This will allow it to restart itself in the same working condition it was in before the power cut. It will also prevent hard drive data corruption that may occur in the event power is suddenly cut when the battery runs out.

If you do not need your PC to be online for remote connections, it might be prudent to leave this feature turned off. This way, if the power cuts while you are away, having it remain powered off will alert you to the fact that there was a power cut and that you should scan your hard drives for any data corruption that may have occurred as a result.
