LAN ROM Protocol

Common Options : PXE, RPL

Quick Review

This BIOS option is dependent on the LAN Boot ROM BIOS setting. It is only relevant if LAN Boot ROM is enabled. It allows you to determine the protocol used to boot the computer using an operating system from a server connected to the same network.

When PXE is selected, the LAN boot ROM will initiate a PXE (Preboot eXecution Environment) bootstrap session when the computer boots.

When RPL is selected, the LAN boot ROM will use the Remote Initial Program Load (RIPL or RPL) protocol instead. It differs from the PXE in that it uses the Novell Netware boot method.

The decision to set this BIOS option to PXE or RPL depends on the type of boot server used on your network. Please contact your network administrator to find out which you should use.

If you disabled the LAN Boot ROM BIOS option, or do not have a boot server on the network, then the setting of this BIOS option will have no effect.
